Once upon a time we enjoyed regular writing from members of our community. That has dropped off, but we'd like to keep their work available for future readers. Enjoy.

Next, I want to break up the newsletter development into sections to take some strain off our sole editor. She's struggling to gather content, and it's not fair that she be responsible for all that and developing it, too. Some potential categories are events (accumulating relevant details from MNA and H of MN), quotes, and the television schedule.
The Adopt-A-Highway just north of Rice was rained out and rescheduled for May 24. See the blog for details.
Other topics that came up were the June social, future speakers, and a firmer meeting theme plan to attract more members.
We're planning to ask Bill if he still wants to host a summer social. If that doesn't work, maybe we'd do a picnic. The preferred date is June 7, the first Sunday. We're trying to space the socials two weeks from the meeting for the month.
We're always on the lookout for speakers at our meetings. They seem to attract the most attendees, and they certainly earn us community attention at times. Please submit your ideas.
I've been a bit lazy in making sure we have firm topics for our meetings. That may be one reason attendance has been down. From here on, we'll have a set topic of discussion for each meeting, and it will be announced in the meeting notes and the newsletter.
The May meeting topic will be Julia Sweeney's movie, Letting Go of God. We'll watch it, then discuss.
We're thinking of having socials in June and August, but no meetings for the summer months.
September's meeting topic will be Dan Barker's book, Godless. You do not need to have read it to participate, though.
That's all for now.
Yours in Dog,
Clint

Iowa becomes the third state in the nation to allow same-sex marriage, after Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Friday's decision upheld a 2007 ruling by a lower court that Iowa's 1998 law limiting marriage to heterosexual couples went against the state's constitution. It becomes effective in 21 days.
"This is a great day for civil rights in Iowa," said attorney Dennis Johnson, a co-counsel with Lambda Legal, which filed the lawsuit on behalf of six same-sex couples seeking to marry in Iowa. "Go get married. Live happily ever after," he said at a news conference where there was loud clapping among plaintiffs.
