I've heard that some of you aren't getting the newsletter through the mailing list. Please check your spam folders and then let me know if you aren't getting our notices.

If you're not sure whether you're subscribed, enter your email address into the box on our home page. If you get the "unsubscribed" notice, you're subscribed. As long as you don't follow the verification link, you'll remain subscribed.

I have no reason to think there's a problem with our mailing list script, but I could be wrong. Thanks for your help.

PZ Myers wrote up a great rant about the state of our universities. Here's an excerpt that I find worth repeating. I may be preaching to the choir, but maybe not.

Another part of the problem is…you. Why do you keep electing cretins to your legislatures who despise the "intellectual elite", who think being smart is a sin, who are so short-sighted that they care nothing for investing in strengthening the country in ways that take ten or more years to pay off? Stop it! Your representatives should be people who value education enough to commit to at least maintaining the current meager level of funding, but instead we get chains of ignoramuses who want to demolish the universities…and simultaneously want to control them to support their favorite ideological nonsense, via "academic freedom" bills. This is also a long-term goal: we have to work to restore our government to some level of sanity. It's been the domain of fools and thieves for far too long.

CMFFoT is a fairly low-key organization, but we do have some costs associated with the website, meeting venues, postage, and office supplies. While we don't have a membership fee requirement, we suggest an annual donation of $10 for those who wish to do so.

You may now make your donation online using the Paypal button on our home page. You may also make donations by cash or check at our meetings.

If we accumulate a substantial amount of funds, we'll discuss how we'd like to use that money. Please feel free to offer suggestions in our forum.
